In the 1980s, geeky Adam uses a video camera to document his family's crazy life. His mother, Beverly, is overprotective and lacks boundaries, while his dad has a hot temper and finds it difficult to parent without screaming. Rounding out the clan are Adam's terrifying sister, Erica; his older brother, Barry, who has middle-child syndrome; and the family's beloved grandfather, Al "Pops" Solomon. Pops is responsible for wild antics, including offering drinks to Barry and teaching Adam about the ways of love -- which create more chaos in an already high-strung family.

Adam and Murray don't want to go on a camping trip, so father and son create a film faking it; Erica joins an all-girl a cappella group and learns an important lesson after taking over the group.

Adam's graduation day is approaching and everyone is ready -- except for Beverly, who is not coping well with the idea of an empty nest; with Geoff's encouragement, Erica decides to try out for Cyndi Lauper as a one-time backup singer replacement.

Beverly buys a bicycle for Adam just like the one from "Pee Wee's Big Adventure"; Barry and Erica turn Murray's furniture store into an after-hours lounge for college students.

With everyone living back at home, the house is full of Goldberg chaos; pregnant Erica enlists Beverly's help in clearing things out for the baby; Adam and Barry are forced to share a bedroom to make room for the baby nursery.
